I have been a practicing registered nurse for 34 years. Although my personal experiences in nursing have been positive, I have not found that to be consistent within the profession for qualified students with disabilities who want to become nurses. My hope is that nursing as a profession views disability as difference, and values that difference as wholeheartedly as any other difference under the broad umbrella of diversity. That has not happened, yet. NOND is the one organization with a voice to advocate specifically for nurses with disabilities and students with disabilities who want to become nurses. I want to be an active part of that voice and community.
